A new health-promoting workplace program will be endorsed by Parliament soon, says Dr Peni Veilave.

Mr Veilave is the Special Service Agreement (SSA) health promotion representative for the World Health Organization(WHO).

Speaking at the National Workshop on Non- Communicable Diseases (NCDs) last week, he said discussions had been made with the permanent secretary for Civil Service Ministry Susan Kiran.

“We are currently reviewing the health-promoting workplace policy,” he said.

“At the same time, we are also developing a two module health-promoting workplace training guide which will be piloted in the civil service in the coming days.

“We are hoping to have the launch mid of next month.”

Dr Veilave said the training would be done to divisional sectors of the civil service before opening it up to the private sectors.

“As of now we are piloting the program inside the civil service but even then we already have three key private sectors that have out their hands up.

“We have got Westpac and a couple of others that is going to be joining the pilot program in the next couple of weeks.

“We are hoping to see decisions around lifestyle choices happen across the settings of Fiji. Inside our household and workplaces.”
