THE Ministry of Health and Medical Services has already committed $1.5million of its 2019/2020 Budget.

Minister of Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete highlighted this in Parliament yesterday.

He said there was a budget appropriation that was available for overseas evacuation.

“The overseas referrals were for treatment only and not for diagnostic workup, second opinions or experimental treatment,” Dr Waqainabete said.

“The rules around which we run the Overseas Evacuation Treatment Scheme is based on best evidence, best practice, and also on discussions with what is happening within the region and on some advice that we receive from colleagues in New Zealand who come through under the New Zealand Medical Treatment Scheme.

“… As representatives of all Fijians, we deliver solutions to our nation’s greatest challenges. We are not here to guard our political fortunes and not to make a theatre of political discourse but to serve as guardians of every Fijian’s wellbeing.”
