THE novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is not airborne, says Health and Medical Services Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.

He said the deadly virus could only be spread through contact.

“It’s not airborne, so it cannot be spread through the wind,” he said.

“It can only be spread through contact.”

“So if someone sneezes on to their hand and they touch somebody, then only it’ll spread.”

The ministry has urged the public not to be misinformed or share false rumours of the virus.

So far there’s no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Fiji and the ministry would inform the public if there was a confirmed case, the minister said.

“Just as we did during the measles outbreak, the ministry will inform the public as soon as possible once we have a confirmed case.”
