APIA, 21 NOVEMBER 2019 (SAMOA OBSERVER) – The state of emergency declared as a result of the measles crisis has cancelled Samoa ruling Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP)’s 40th birthday celebration, scheduled for Friday this week.

The decision was announced in a public notice signed by the HRPP Secretary.

The notice which was addressed to all supporters of the HRPP party added the members will be advised of a later date for the celebration in the near future.

During the political party’s 39th birthday celebration last year at its Mulinu’u headquarter, party leader and Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi emphasised the party’s goal of protecting rights of everyone.

“We set aside our salutations and our differences and we come together as members of the HRPP,” he said during last year’s celebration.

“You are the chosen ones to serve our country and it’s never an easy task, a task that needs everyone on board.

“One must follow in order to lead and one must serve if you want to lead.”

There are currently 47 HRPP Members of Parliament in the legislative assembly and three other Independent Members.
