NADI Airport is now home to the statue of fallen British Special Air Service (SAS) Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba.

The statue was unveiled by the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, today before the royal couple departed for Tonga.

The event was an especially emotional one for the family of late Sgt Labalaba.

According to his son Isaia Dere, 52, the event was a special one not just for his village of Nawaka, Nadi, but the entire country.

Sgt Labalaba lost his life during the Battle of Mirbat in Oman in 1972 after British forces were attacked by rebel forces.
