The establishment of export business Kumar’s Exports was the result of years of hard work for Sigatoka farmer Mohit Kumar.

The export facility was commissioned by Minister for Agriculture Dr Mahendra Reddy last weekend. Mr Kumar said he had been farming for 20 years before opening up the export business.

He said his community of Bilalevu, Sigatoka had felt the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic where a number of cases were found in the area.

“I nearly lost everything on my farm because I was quarantined at a hotel for two weeks and even ended up in hospital,” he said.

“I had no one to attend to my farm for two weeks.”

He said he had plans to further develop the export business.

“I am currently exporting breadfruit, jackfruit, cowpeas, bitter gourd, chillies, papaya, okra, amongst other things to Auckland, New Zealand.

“It feels great knowing that it is my own business as I was previously, for many years, supplying my vegetables to other exporters in Bilalevu, Sigatoka.”
