The Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset last week distributed 165 Diwali food packs valued at approximately $10,000 to the residents of HART home along the Suva–Nausori corridor.
The 165 Diwali hampers consisted of essential food items and assorted Diwali sweets.
The annual community assistance event for the club aims to provide essential food items to the needy.
“With the tradition spanning over two decades, the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset also undertakes a similar initiative during Christmas, where we reach out to HART home recipients with essential food items,” said club president Jason Chandra.
“I would like to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to Westpac Fiji for contributing $6000 towards our Diwali signature event.
“Westpac Fiji has extended similar financial assistance to fellow Rotary Clubs around Fiji.
“Also, I would like to extend my appreciation to our club members for their generosity and financial contributions to this noble cause, believing that these collective efforts can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in our community.”
He also paid tribute to the late Rotarian and former president Champak Patel of Eskay Motors, “who over the past decades had been championing our Diwali hamper distribution initiative”.
“The legacy and memories that he left behind would forever be cherished and this year’s Diwali hamper distribution is dedicated to him for his unwavering support and contributions to Rotary and its many initiatives.” The Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset is the youngest of the Rotary clubs in Suva. Since its establishment in 1999, it comprises 20 active members.
