THE New Zealand 7s welcome ceremony at the headquarters of the Maori King Movement set the tone for this weekend as the 16 team captains were traditionally acknowledged.

For Fiji Airways Fiji 7s captain Kalione Nasoko, the ceremony brought him closer to home.

Nasoko said the traditional welcome and speeches demonstrated how the Maori valued their culture and traditions the same way as the iTaukei.

He said the ceremony was educational for him and it motivated him to play to his best and lead the national team.
