Robust Swire Shipping Fijian Drua winger Vinaya Habosi has one thing on his mind whenever he runs out on to the field and that is to make his parents proud.

The in-form winger, who has taken the Super Rugby Pacific competition by storm, will play against the Chiefs at Churchill Park in Lautoka tomorrow.

Speaking to The Fiji Times yesterday, the man from Hanahana, Nadroga said he plays his best to repay his parents.

“I want to repay my parents for their sacrifices for me and my siblings,” he said.

“They are my biggest inspirations and without their support, I would not be where I am today. They support us equally and I will always do my best to make them proud.”

The man known in the world of rugby as “The Bossman”, Habosi has set his sights on the Rugby World Cup next year.

“I hope my performances for the Drua will put me in contention for the Rugby World Cup. I know there are a lot of good players playing in my position so I will try and impress the selectors on Saturday.”

He shared how emotional he was running out in Drua colours for the first time against the Waratahs. “A highlight for me this year would be my Super Rugby debut against the Waratahs in Round 1. I was emotional coming out of the tunnel knowing that I had achieved a lifelong dream.”

Habosi also mentioned how he would love the opportunity to play for a New Zealand Super Rugby franchise.

“I would love the opportunity to play for any of the Super Rugby teams from NZ but I would prefer to don the Crusaders jersey if am given the chance.”

In his parting remark, Habosi urged aspiring rugby players to always listen to their parents.

“My biggest advice to young rugby players is to listen to your parents, for they are your Gods on earth. Always seek their blessing before you do something and everything will fall into place.”

He urged fans to come in numbers and support the Drua.

“To all the fans, please come out in numbers and wear blue. It is our last game of the season and we will try and put a good performance that you will be proud of.”
