INITIAL reports out of the tourism industry indicate little to no damage on properties or incidences as a result of the adverse weather brought by Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni.
Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) president Dixon Seeto said while they were still in the process of collating data from all members, they believed properties, guests and industry staff members had escaped unscathed.
“During any adverse weather, the main concern of properties is the safety and security of guests and staff members,” Mr Seeto said.
“We have kept in touch with our members and we have been providing them with regular weather updates from the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) and Na Draki. The Tourism Response Team was also activated, headed by our Tourism Ministry permanent secretary Shaheen Ali.”
He said they kept in touch with stakeholders such as Fiji Airways to keep updated on flight information.
“So far, I’m happy to say there haven’t been any incidents or damage. We are still in the process of gathering information.”
