NADI-based fruit and vegetable export processing plant Nature’s Way Cooperative Ltd participated in a week-long trade mission to New Zealand earlier this month.
Company CEO Michael Brown said the meeting with potential produce buyers in Auckland raised serious issues that needed to be addressed if the export of local fruits and vegetables were to be boosted.
“In looking at the buyer insights some of the more salient issues that importers like Fresh Direct L, one of the largest importers of fresh produce and organic products in New Zealand, highlighted are things we need to take note of and improve. These are things that are of prime importance to consumers like quality standards and the importance of grading and fruit sizes which cannot be compromised,” he said.
Mr Brown said another factor that was highlighted during the trade mission talks was branding and packaging.
“From this mission my message to exporters is that if they want to expand their market they need to be vigilant and take heed of the points that have been raised.
“They need to create an image that will result in consumers who remain loyal to the product.”
