Grasshoppers set for new battle

THE Grasshoppers Netball Club will host the 2017 Invitational Netball Festival at the National Netball Centre in Suva next month.

In a press release yesterday the club said it had been playing an important role in the development of young netball players.

“The Grasshoppers Netball Club in Suva has continued to develop and grow. We have achieved our goals for 2016 through the hard work and dedication of our management team delivering our club initiatives such as the 2017 New South Wales state championship in Sydney and 2017 Queensland Cup in Cairns, Brisbane,” the press release read.

“The club invites all interested parents who would like to register their daughters from under-9 to under-18 to do so this Saturday at the LICI Multipurpose Court in Suva at 9am.

“We have been very thankful and fortunate to have the support of Tourism Fiji, Grand Pacific Hotel, Pacific Destinationz (Fiji), Fiji Times Ltd, Bank South Pacific, Sportsworld, Queensland Netball Firebirds, and the Fiji Sports Council for accommodating our bookings for our annual event while we are awaiting other sponsors who had supported us last year.”

Registration is $120 per team which is a huge reduction from $50 per player last year.

“We are rebuilding this year with a more discussed approach on how we deliver these events for our players and their families and we want it to mean more than just playing netball.

“We encourage the development of life skills also and prepare the girls at a young age from U9s to make the right choices in their netball skills and personal development,” the release further read.

“This is done in close collaboration with the parents and families. The results are astounding with players at 15 and 17 years of age making the Fiji U21 Baby Pearls training squad and the main Fiji Pearls squad.”
