GRASSHOPPER’S Netball Club elite development players Ruthie Konusi and Tehinnah Ratulomai have been offered sports scholarships to attend Saint Andrews College in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The St Joseph Secondary School Year 10 students will commence their studies at Saint Andrews College in the beginning of 2018 Academic Year.
Both players have been part of the Grasshoppers netball development program and Australian Tours since 2014.
In 2015, while in Year 8 at Stella Maris, Tehinnah presented Nasinu in the under-19 team in the national IDC and in 2016 they both represented Nasinu in the under 21 grade for the IDC.
This year they played for the Sarafui team in the 2016 Rotuma Games and U15s for St Joseph’s.
At only the age of 14 they were key players for the senior Grasshoppers team that played in the Suva Netball Association Super Premier competition, a significant move in 2017 by the Grasshoppers from Nasinu to Suva Netball.
Tehinnah’s father Sairusi Ratulomai said Tehinnah and Ruthie were a testament of the solid development netball programs offered by Grasshoppers netball.
“It takes a bit of your resources and time but it’s like investment or running a business you must pour in resources to see great results,” he said.
“What makes the difference is the vision that John and Meci have for the Grasshoppers and for the girls.
“That vision really attracted us. It was a holistic approach physically, mentally, and spiritually and it was exactly what our girls needed.”
Grasshopper’s founder and program director Alumeci Vosararawa-Sachs stated that without the commitment, investment and unwavering support of the parents it is very difficult to achieve a successful outcome for the girls.
“Both the Ratulomai and Konusi families have been catalysts to the evolution of our programs and we are immensely grateful.”
Ruthie moves to NZ early 2018 to join Tehinnah who had moved with the Ratulomais to Christchurch in June.
Tehinnah has also forced her way into the senior A netball team for Burnside High School, plays Christchurch club games every Saturday and is a member of the Motivationz Netball Academy in Christchurch owned by former Silver Ferns, Margaret (Marg) Foster.
Marg is very supportive of the Grasshoppers and very instrumental in the scholarship process which was thorough and tough against other potential candidates in New Zealand and abroad.
