The grant contribution of NZ$40m (approx.FJ$60m) demonstrates New Zealand’s commitment to support its Pacific Vuvale at this time of great need and this gesture of kindness and generosity will always remain in the hearts of every Fijian.

Fijian Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama noted this in a statement yesterday conveying his appreciation to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for New Zealand’s timely support to Fiji.

The New Zealand Government has offered Fiji a grant contribution of NZ$40m (approx.FJ$60m) in budget support in response to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a telephone conversation yesterday with his counterpart, Mr Bainimarama thanked Ms Ardern and the people of New Zealand for standing in solidarity with Fiji.

Mr Bainimarama said this remarkable assistance from New Zealand will be of great importance in assisting Fiji’s current response and recovery measures.

He said this partnership attest to unbreakable bond of friendship and bilateral relations between Fiji and New Zealand that continues to strengthen.

Meanwhile New Zealand is also supporting Fiji in its efforts to access safe and effective vaccines and in doing so, New Zealand will contribute vaccine support package of 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and grant funding of NZ$2 million support for vaccine delivery.
