KEEP personal items and valuables secured when you move around Suva City.

This is the advice from the Fiji Police Force after reports of petty crimes such as pickpocketing and grab-and-run within the city.

Police have confirmed that over the past month, they had arrested and charged several individuals for related crimes.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said those involved had been apprehended and processed.

“Over the past two weeks (in early August) we have arrested and charged individuals for theft of mobile phones and they have been produced in court,” Ms Naisoro said.

She said while police had increased visibility in the central business district (CBD), the public must also take necessary precautions.

“We would urge members of the public to secure personal property when moving around the busy city areas.” She said criminal elements would try to take advantage of shoppers during rush hour.
