THE arrival of government officials on the island of Kadavu brought smiles to the affected villagers who had felt the full brunt of Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni.
Lomaji Village headman Anare Bose said since Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni made landfall, they had wondered when government officials would visit the village.
When this newspaper visited the village on Monday, government officials were already conducting assessments of the damage caused by the Category 3 cyclone.
“We are very grateful that government officials are here to assess the damage and it gives us a sense of peace knowing we are thought of in this time of great need.”
A village located about 200 metres above sea level and at the foot of Mt Washington, Mr Bose said they could only hope relief supplies would arrive before they ran out of food rations.
While there was no widespread damage with only two of the 56 houses partially damaged, Mr Bose said their farms suffered a lot.
