Rural and Maritime Development Minister Inia Seruiratu has urged the iTaukei Affairs Ministry and the Fisheries Ministry to take government service to those in maritime areas.

He made the call after a district representative from Yasawa informed the Prime Minister at the Ba Provincial Council meeting that fishermen in the Yasawa Group were waiting to have their licenses registered before they could start harvesting beche-de-mer.

The district representative said fishermen hoped their licences would be processed soon so they could earn some income from this harvest within the two-month time harvesting time frame allocated by the Government.

Mr Seruiratu said government officials should not expect these fishermen to visit the office often because they lived on the island and it would be of great assistance to take the service to them.

A Ministry of Fisheries representative informed meeting participants that they were waiting on the release of the Vola ni Kawa Bula (VKB) document before they could process licence documentations for these villagers.

Commissioner Western Mesake Ledua said they were working together to ensure these licences would be approved on time.
