The Sangam organisation should not be used for political ambitions, prominent hotelier and TISI Sangam secretary-general Damend Gounder said while speaking at the Rakiraki TISI Sangam organised cultural night which was held on Monday.

He said Sangam literature and history did not show Sangam Fiji founder, Sadhu Kuppuswamy, affiliated to any political party.

“To make Sangam better, unity has to be on one platform or this noble servant leadership concept,” he said.

“There has to be a very simple objective of being for the members and for the organisation and not for one’s self. The platform cannot be used for political ambitions.

“The leadership should be focused on serving others above any personal priorities or objectives.

“There has to be a leadership style where leaders are accountable and responsible for their actions and words.

“I have not read anywhere that Sadhu Kuppuswamy in his service for the organisation and members of Sangam had any political ambitions nor was part of any political party.

“He founded a movement that till today has thousands of followers and I will not be wrong in saying no one in the history of this nation has done that.”
