Fiji Teachers Union president Muniappa Goundar will contest the position of general secretary.

Mr Goundar believes he is the right person to lead the union at this time.

“I have been very close to the head office and the secretariat and have been attending to all issues and concerns in regards to the union,” he said.

“I have been the under-study of Agni Deo Singh since 2012 and the membership has got faith and confidence in me.

“I fully understand what the union stands for and what our union members stand for and I am ready to serve them.

“I ask all union members to stay united and support me and my team in the upcoming elections.”

The Fijian Elections Office will conduct the FTU elections on April 22.

Mr Goundar is the head of school at the Nakaikogo Sanatan Dharam School in Nausori and has another seven years of service left.

Mr Singh vacated the post to contest the 2022 General Election.
