GOOD Samaritans have provided school stationery for needy students in Labasa.

Students were excited when they received their bags including Adidas branded school bags, water bottles and pencil cases.

The kind-hearted group is made up of friends in Australia and Fiji who wished to remain anonymous.

However, Fiji Link helped the group with the assistance by transporting the given items to Labasa from Nadi, after it arrived from Australia. Information shared by the group revealed that this has been their charity work for past years.

“We believe in helping the needy families in our communities,” the group shared in a statement.

“This is part of our firm belief that every child should be educated and have a successful future.

“We will continue to help every child achieve their dreams back home.”

The Australian donor who purchased three boxes of school bags and library books for a preschool said the kindergarten students would certainly enjoy reading the books. “This donation project is to dedicate and honour my mentor who is in Fiji somewhere,” the donor said.

“So it’s for him and the kids. Hopefully he knows who it’s from.”

Parents were excited and thanked the group for their kind help.

Single mother Miriam Simmons described the help as a relief for her.

“This is a blessing and I thank God for this group of friends who have helped me and my daughter a lot,” she said.

Another parent, Meresita Rasi, who has six children attending school, said the assistance had lightened her financial burden of school shopping.

Her husband, a caretaker of a cane farm in Siberia, Labasa also thanked the group for considering his children.

Families in the squatter settlement of Namara were also assisted.
