FLYING Fijian Vereniki Goneva scored a try for his Newcastle Falcons in their 28-20 win over Exeter Chiefs in the London Premiership competition in England during the weekend.
Goneva, playing at wing, proved a threat for Exter Chiefs and helped cut the Chiefs’ lead at the top of the standing, Planet Rugby reported yesterday.
“Exeter Chiefs’ lead at the top of the Premiership was cut after Newcastle Falcons produced an outstanding display to earn a 28-20 triumph. Although Toby Flood and Gareth Steenson traded early penalties, the first half was all about the Falcons as they went into the break with a 22-point buffer,” the report said.
“Turnovers significantly hampered the visitors and, with Vereniki Goneva and Sinoti Sinoti on the wings, the Tynesiders were always going to be a threat. The Pacific Island duo both touched down to move Newcastle 15-3 in front before Joel Hodgson added a penalty and Kyle Cooper scored their third try.
Meanwhile, Gabby Lovobalavu’s Wasps lost to Saracens 15-38 in Premiership Rugby in London, on Sunday.
The side had players Jake Cooper-Woolley, Willie le Roux, Christian Wade, Juan de Jongh and Lovobalavu.
