LAUTOKA Golf Club will be a hive of activities on Saturday during the Gaffar Ali-sponsored 18 holes Pro-Am Western Open tournament.
The tournament will be in memory of his late wife, Indra Ali.
Club official Raymond Singh yesterday confirmed the event would be a prelude to the 87th Geotech Drilling International Services/ Islands Electric-sponsored Lautoka Open Golf Championship to be hosted on Saturday, November 24.
Singh thanked Gaffar Ali for his gesture in being a dedicated member of the club and in sponsoring an event to help local golfers.
“It is an appositive time for golfers to test the golf links greens and fairways in readiness for our national event,” Singh said.
Ali has offered prizes in the Overall, A,B,C, Beginners and Professional categories with players from Ba, Nadi, Denarau, Natadola, and some overseas players expected to also compete.
“The professional division will be represented by Amitesh Chandra, Roneel Prakash, Zoheer Ahmed, Vikrant Chandra and Bill Suguturaga.
“Newly crowned A-grade champion Prem Chand will lead the amateur division alongside home course favourites, James Krishna and Suren Pillay.”
Golf Fiji executive Munesh Prasad and former Lautoka Open champion Praneel Prasad will head Nadi’s challenge alongside national elite squad members Rohit Chandra and Asish Chand.
