Professional Zoheer Ahmed set the early pace in the Rum Co of Fiji Pro-Am at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club course in Nadi yesterday.

Ahmed was in impressive form carding a brilliant three under 69 in the first round.

Viliame Sorowale scored two under par 70 while Denarau Golf Club manager Amitesh Chandra returned with one under par 71 after 18 holes.

The professionals are vying for the first prize of $900 in the category.

Abid Hussain, the top contender in the amateur category, scored two under par 70.

Club member and junior golfer Bella Cho, who is the favourite in the women’s category, carded one under par 71. Club manager Chandra said more than 100 golfers were competing in the two-day event.

“The chase for the top prize purse in the professional category should go down to the wire because of the superb playing conditions,” Chandra said.

“We are grateful to Paradise Beverages for supporting this tournament for the 20th consecutive year.”
