ABOUT 15 golfers will fight for the pool prize of $4000 in the professional division during the 2017 Geotech Drilling and Islands Electric Lautoka Open Championship at the Golf Links Course today.
Home town favourite Roneel Prakash will face stiff competition from the likes of Tomsai Tuivuna, Vikrant Chandra and Apenisa Koroicure for the title.
Other professionals who will be targeting the top cash prize will be Anasa Seruvatu, Bill Suguturaga, Zoheer Ahmed, Mahmood Buksh, Waisake Vati and Nemani Ratumaiyale.
Fiji Professional Golf Association secretary Amitesh Chandra said the sponsors had given $4000 with the winner waking away $800 richer.
“This is the biggest prize purse in the county for our professionals in a one-day tournament,” Amitesh said.
“We would like to thank the sponsors for supporting professional golf and expect stiff competition.
“The rain over the last few days has helped soften the greens so we will expect some very low scores from the professionals.”
Fiji’s top local professional Sam Lee will miss the event because he is out of the country
