Golf with a cause

ALL proceedings from the 2017 Fiji Ship Owners and Agents Association organised Annual Charity Golf Tournament will go towards the Fiji Children Overseas Treatment Trust Funds.

The tournament was held at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

The association collected $30,000 last year through the tournament and the funds were given for the noble cause.

Tournament spokesperson Vera Wedlock said they had wonderful weather to be able to play golf.

“The association is made up of nine members and this is one day where we put our hats aside and come together to work for a common goal to raise funds to assist with the Ministry of Health in the children’s treatment,” she said.

“In 2006 there were group of golfers who were playing golf and after the competition they were having few drinks and that is when they saw a newspaper article that there was a shortage of penicillin in CWM Hospital.

“There were 113 golfers who competed in the competition yesterday.

“We sold raffles and had an auction. We wanted the people to come and play golf and enjoy themselves since the tournament was for a noble cause,” she said.
