The Lautoka Golf Club is all geared up to stage the deferred Long Run (Fiji)-sponsored Late Maciu Malo Memorial tournament at the golf links on Saturday.

The 18 hole individual stroke event has been generously sponsored by businessman and avid golfer, Ram Reddy. Club executive Raymond Singh commended Long Run (Fiji).

He said proceeds raised from the event would go towards The Fiji Times late journalist Maciu Malo’s family.

“Maciu will be well remembered for covering a host of national golf events including our most prestigious Lautoka Open Championship that has been consecutively played from 1931,” Singh said.

“In appreciation, Lautoka Golf Club is keen to make the event a very successful one in Maciu Malo’s memory and support his family in the form of cash and household essentials.”

Proud sponsor Ram Reddy initiated the fundraising event last December but the COVID-19 pandemic halted proceedings in March.

Reddy has confirmed fantastic prizes in the overall A, B,C & Juniors categories.

The overall champion on the day will also walk away with a specially engraved trophy- alongside the main prize. Journalist and former Nadi and national football rep Maika Kasami described the late Malo as a very dedicated and hardworking gentleman who covered a host of sports events locally and internationally.

Fiji Sports Media Association (FSMA) president Maikeli Seru commended Singh and members of the Lautoka Golf Club for the initiative.

“It is rare in Fiji to see journalists being commended for the hard work they tirelessly uphold as members of the fourth estate. They are daily mediums of information to members of the public,” Seru said.

“FSMA thank Raymond Singh and Lautoka Golf Club for helping in the future of Mr Malo’s family.”

Singh said the tournament would be open to all golfers and visitors. Tee off at 12.15pm.
