A four-year-old girl who was hit by a tree trunk felled by soldiers at an informal settlement in Nabua is out of the CWM Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto said the girl was recovering well and the house destroyed by the tree was rebuilt on Thursday.

The RFMF Commander also said they were willing to assist the Wailailai settlement family by replacing the household items that were damaged.

“We visited the girl, she is out of Intensive Care Unit and she is recovering well,” Cmdr Naupoto said.

Police spokeswoman Savaira Tabua said a complaint had been lodged with them after the four-year-girl was injured.

“Yes, we have received a report regarding this case and our investigation is still ongoing,” she said.

Wailailai resident Ulamila Ranadi said the child was making her way home when a section of the tree struck her.

“Blood was flowing out of her ears as she lay on the ground unconscious, her eyes were all white and the pupils could not be seen,” she claimed.

Rear Admiral Naupoto said he was not aware of any police investigation into the incident.
