Girl, 7, latest road victim

A SEVEN-year-old girl from Tamavua-i-wai in Suva is now the country’s latest road victim.
The young girl died following a motor vehicle accident last night.
Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a 19-year- old man was in police custody at the Totogo Police station for allegedly causing the death of the victim.
Ms Naisoro said the alleged accident occurred at the junction of Foster Road and Tamavua-I-wai after 8pm.
According to Police, the suspect is alleged to have bumped the victim who was crossing the road with an adult and another child.
Ms Naisoro said the suspect reported the matter at the Delainavesi Police Post whereby officers and bystanders removed the victim and rushed her to CWM Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The road death toll currently stands at 35 compared to 36 for the same period last year.
