Members of the Fiji Ginger Growers Association have been encouraged to transition from subsistence farming to sustainable, commercial farming.

More than 100 ginger farmers attended the first Fiji Ginger Growers Association annual general meeting recently in Nausori.

The Fiji Crop and Livestock Council (FCLC) chief executive officer Jiu Daunivalu said it was pleasing to see associations such as the Fiji Ginger Growers registered with FCLC achieving their necessary legal requirements, as well as working towards the registration of all of their members.

She said it was “gratifying” to see women and young farmers amongst the attendees.

“They are able to access financial institutions, and gain information and upskilling on market development and value chains through workshops and training sessions facilitated by FCLC,” said Mrs Daunivalu.
