“If you want to enjoy a more healthier life, get out of your shell.”

This was the advice from former national golf administrator Ilaisa Labaibure.

“I see that now it’s beginning where more people are starting to come out of their shells and take on the courage to get themselves tested,” he said.

He said the media coverage on prostate cancer played a key role in encouraging men to open up about their sufferings.

“I have seen the continuation of media coverage which is a very good thing because most of those who have this disease rarely come out unless they are encouraged and given the right directives and have the will power to do it.

“I think that’s the most important thing and along with the media, the whole family needs to be involved in encouraging men to come up.”

He said “shyness” restricted men from coming up and getting tested. “The other thing is the health and the thought of what will happen to them and their family if they have it.

“They think that it will just go away and don’t have themselves checked — but it won’t because it is there to stay.”

He said he got tested every year.

“If you want to enjoy a healthier life, get out of your shell, come and get tested.

“I think you have to be open about it because it’s your life, your life is at stake.” He said there was a need for more awareness in communities.
