GENDER-based and family violence is one of the most pervasive violations of human rights in the world, one of the least prosecuted crimes and one of the greatest threats to lasting peace and development.

This was the message from Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa conveyed to participants at the Pacific Community’s (SPC) Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT) Consultation on the Implementation of Family Violence Legislation at the Novotel Nadi today.

“Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I open this consultation, convened by the Pacific Community’s Regional Rights Resource Team with support from UN Women,” she said.

“Congratulations on being able to gather this important network of important actors from the region who play vital roles on the implementation of family violence legislation.

“I am pleased to welcome government representatives from across the Pacific to this important consultation and I must thank you for making time to be here to participate in this crucial forum.”
