Update: 6:37PM WEIGHTLIFTER Eileen Cikamatana has won gold for Fiji in the women’s 90kg category at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Cikamatana who is the Commonwealth record holder for the event lifted 103kg in the snatch and 130kg in the clean and jerk for a total lift of 233kg.

Her closest competitor was Australian’s Kaity Fassina who lifted 104kg in the snatch 128kg in the clean and jerk for a total lift of 232kg.

This is the second medal for Fiji and the sport as well after Apolonia Vaivai won bronze in the women’s 69kg category on Sunday. 

Cikamatana becomes the first Fijian woman to win a Commonwealth Game for Fiji. 

The last gold medal win by Fiji was by judoka Nacanieli Takayawa at the 2002 Games in England.
