Yout in the Social Democratic Liberal Party have always had a platform to participate in the political process and to raise issues concerning young people, says SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka.

“Since our SDL (Soqosoqo ni Duavata ni Lewenivanua) days, the party has been consistent in ensuring that the voices of our youths are heard at all levels of governance,” he said in an International Youth Day message last week.

“This approach is enhanced through our party constitution where youths have seats in the party’s governing body and the establishment of the youth forum which hosts membership of young people from all over Fiji.

“Through these avenues, the party is able to hear directly the views of young people on governance, social, education and employment issues.”

Mr Gavoka said SODELPA was unique as while it championed traditional social values, it also appreciated and embraced the technological and fast-paced changes of the digital age.

“SODELPA is a political organisation that is conservative, at the same time progressive towards the fast-changing global environment; our young people have become easily acquainted with these changes and simultaneously recognise the inter-generational gap and mindset.”
