THE search has begun for the next Waisale Serevi as the Gau Island-based Kacau Knights 7s team prepares for its debut at the Martintar 7s tournament in Nadi this weekend.

The team is on a campaign to produce another great 7s player to replace the wizard of the code, Waisale Serevi.

“On the world stage today there is no greater brand in the 7s game than Waisale Serevi,” Knights coach Apenisa Nodrayaca said.

“Gau has produced many names such as Marika Vunibaka, the Rauluni brothers, Saumaisue brothers, Saimoni Rokini just to name a few from a big list.” Nodrayaca said it had been the initiative to find the next best thing Gau had to offer in sevens rugby.

“Players in our squad have been hand-picked after a series of local tournaments in Gau last year and have all deserved a spot to represent Gau in 7s.” Meanwhile, the team will dedicate their participation in the tournament to a late teammate.

“We will remember one of our players, Filimoni Tuisinu, who was one of the seven men from Nawaikama Village who went missing in the sea late last year.

“We dedicate our first tournament to him and his family.”

The Martintar 7s tournament kicks off tomorrow at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.
