Games hurdle

LAUTOKA will be entering a makeshift team at the Western Division Chow Games next month.

The Sugar City zone meet was completed last Saturday.

Lautoka Primary Schools Athletics Association president Johnson Lee said their preparations would be hasty.

He said they would hold time trials for the students that did not attend the zone meet.

“We are still trying to finalise our squad,” he said.

“Training has not started because there will be Year 7 examinations next week.

“Some students did not attend the zone meet because of examinations. So we have make do with what we have. We hope to take a contingent of 130 athletes.”

There are more than 40 schools in Lautoka.

Lee said there was no sponsor for the district.

“The headteachers of all the schools will be giving a levy for the team’s participation,” he said.

“We are grateful to Natabua High School principal Viren Sharma for allowing us again to use their ground for training which should start in full force after next week.”
