SEAQAQA lad Gabriele Senikarawa will be a player to look out for during the Courts Inter District Championship which kicks off next weekend.
The 19-year-old impressed during the national under-20 camp in Ba earlier this month.
Fiji U20 coach Ravinesh Kumar said Senikarawa had a lot of potential.
“The doors to the Fiji U20 team are still open.” he said.
“However, we will be looking at a boy from Seaqaqa, Gabriele because he impressed at the last camp. Since joining camp he has improved every day.
“He is a striker who has a lot of potential which we will work on. Gabriele plays for Seaqaqa in the premier competition.
“I’m not saying that he will be part of the upcoming tour or next year’s World Cup but we will train him to become a better player.”
Meanwhile, the two players from Australia who attended the trials, failed to get the thumbs up from the selectors.
Sydney residents Shaun Kumar and Rajneil Chand were part of the camp.
“We would like to thank the two players from Australia for their commitment,” Kumar said.
“They tried their best but I think we have players here who are better. The existing players in the squad are quite good because they are playing district level football.”
The Fiji U20 players have been released from camp to represent their respective districts at the IDC.
A host of the U20 players are key members of the district teams.
Kumar said the boys would re-join camp in Suva on October.
“They will be in camp until November 2 before we head to Australia for the tour,” he added.
