Futsal league set to resume

Futsal lovers will once again get to enjoy their favourite sport as the 2020 Ariston, Gokals, Whirlpool Southern Business House Futsal Soccer League is all set to resume this Sunday at the National Hockey Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva after a lapse of four-months due to restrictions placed because of the outbreak of global pandemic COVID-19.

Tournament organiser Alan Kumar of Bula Events Group says all teams are eager to participate after such a long break which was beyond their control.

“The good news is that we have been given the green light to resume the games after securing the ‘Safe Sports Fiji’ accreditation from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Fiji Sports Commission respectively,” Mr Kumar confirmed.

“As event hosts, we will be implementing new measures for players and spectators in line with the COVID-19 rules and I urge players and spectators to come and support the event while adhering to the new measures put in place at the same time.”

Mr Kumar said a total of 19 games will be played on Sunday while all the 32 participating teams will be participating in the first elimination rounds following the completion of pool play as the games progress in coming weeks.

He said the Poly Products/Philips Lighting sponsored veterans division and the Unit Trust of Fiji Sponsored women’s competition will also go into the second round of pool play on Sunday.
