FOUR youth clubs in Bua were given funds to economically empower their members through income generating projects.

The $10,000 given to the clubs by Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation this week was shared among the four with each receiving $2500.

Foundation executive Ambalika Devi said all profits generated needed to be reinvested in diversified projects.

“Farming project profits can be reinvested into health, environment or any other projects that addresses issues pertaining to our communities,” she said.

“So far, 600 youths and women around the country have been supported with income generation entrepreneurial projects.

“The needs are identified by the youth and women’s groups who then develop projects and send us proposal for board approval.”

Ms Devi said any registered youth and women’s clubs could apply for the grants with the foundation. “Projects ranging from canteen, roadside healthy markets, organic farming, livestock farming, internet cafe, seaweed farming, gym, shed hire, catering projects, hair salons are some projects that are being approved,” she said.

“Ministry of Youth and Sports is providing skill level training which enable youth clubs to develop projects and seek funding to utilise the knowledge, skill and passion and generate revenue.

“We are working in partnership with line ministries, provincial councils, and relevant partners who help with monitoring and evaluations. “Social media is also used in monitoring and evaluation of remote projects.”
