Former Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) commander the late Ratu Epeli Ganilau was accorded a full guard of honour when his coffin was escorted to the Queen Elizabeth Barracks (QEB) for a funeral service.
This after it was marched through Brown St from the Suva mortuary.
The service at QEB was attended by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, former presidents and senior military officers Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Jioji Konrote, family members and members of the diplomatic corp.
Delivering an eulogy on behalf of the RFMF, Brigadier-General (Ret’d) Apakuki Kurusiga said the late Ratu Epeli was a dedicated officer who began his career in the military when he was only 20 years old.
Ratu Epeli’s daughter Adi Koila Ganilau said her father’s passing had left a huge void in their lives as he was the backbone of their family.
She said the family was comforted by the fact he lived a full and happy life, and he was loved by so many people.
After the church service, Ratu Epeli’s funeral cortege departed for Narain Jetty where it sailed for Taveuni onboard the Lomaiviti Princess yesterday afternoon.
Ratu Epeli will spend the night at his chiefly residence Vuniduva before the funeral service and burial on Friday.
