The Fiji Rugby Union has confirmed all Skipper Provincial Cup matches that were scheduled for the next fortnight at various venues have been cancelled.
FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor said the FRU would abide by all the Government directives pertaining to the present health crisis.
“No rugby matches will be held for the next 14 days as of now,” O’Connor said.
“It will resume once the ‘green-light’ is given by the relevant authorities.
“We will work accordingly with all the mandatory directives offered by the Government regarding the current lockdown of the greater Lautoka and Nadi areas.
“The FRU will support the Fijian Government and will continue to strictly adhere to all the directives as stated by the Prime Minister.”
O’Connor said all its member rugby unions must comply and practise social distancing measures including the COVID-19 protocols at all times.
“We should exercise care while moving around by practising the social distancing measures including using hand sanitisers.
“It’s about being hygienic all the time so that we are able to control a killer virus.
“Let’s work together so that everyone is safe and COVID-19 free.”
FRU will make a decision on the re-commencement of competitions once the ‘thumbs-up’ is offered by the relevant authorities after 14-days.
Meanwhile, the FRU AGM that was scheduled to take place in Suva on Saturday has also been cancelled to a later date, which will be confirmed once a semblance of normality returns.
