From the president’s desk

Greetings to you all!

Lautoka has indeed put smiles to everyone’s face in Fiji after an impressive 2-1 win against hosts AS Dragoans during the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League quarter-final. I, on behalf of the entire football fraternity, congratulate the Blues and wish them all the best on their semifinal against Marist FC.

On a similar note, I would like to congratulate our Fiji Airways national 7s team for creating yet another history in becoming the first team to win HSBC Hong Kong 7s for the fourth consecutive year. Congratulations Baber and the boys!

We have finally come to the most awaited week in our Fiji Football calendar 2018. The Vodafone Fiji Football Association 2017 Awards Night is set to roll this Friday. I, hereby, congratulate all the nominees for this year’s honors list and advanced congratulations to all the winners who would be named come Friday. Just on the very next day, Saturday, we will be inaugurating football symposium which will be happening for the first time in Fiji FA’s history. As I said earlier, the main objective of the symposium is to educate district officials and coaches on Fiji FA’s philosophy including the importance of possession football. We have made it compulsory for all district presidents and coaches to attend, thus to put everybody in line with Fiji FA’s plans.

On a sad note, my thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims of the recent severe flooding. Many became homeless, incurred loss worth thousands of dollars and some even lost their loved ones.

This is nature’s call and we cannot deny it. It’s a difficult time but we are resilient people, we are Fijians, we have been through this a lot and we will always recover and come out even stronger.

In view of the deteriorating weather conditions and the welfare/safety of players and officials, we made a decision to postpone all the Vodafone League matches scheduled to be played this weekend and after until further notice. I urge all Fijians to stick to the media in getting the weather updates and adhere to precautionary measures at all times.

Have a blessed week and stay safe.
