As we come to the end of September, and enter a new month, here are some headlines in The Fiji Times’ edition for Friday, October 1.

It is also the start of Pinktober. You can read about that in the Leader on Page 8.

But before that, here’s a reminder.

Remember we are celebrating our 152nd year anniversary and you can get into the draw to win cash prizes. Ten people will win cash prizes for the month of September. Looking ahead to October, 20 more people will win cash prizes. You can get into the draw by simply cutting the masthead of The Fiji Times newspaper, write your name and address, and a phone contact on it, and place this in a bin provided at a store near you. But you’ll have to be in to win. Turn to Page 11 for details, and for the list of participating stores.

  • FIJIANS will be allowed to vote in the next general election with the details they are currently registered under with the Fijian Elections Office (FEO). This, according to Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

  • OPPOSITION member of Parliamnet Niko Nawaikula is seeking a declaration from the Court of Disputed Returns that the iTaukei Land Trust Board (Budget Ammendment) Act 2021 is invalid and was enacted unconstitutionally.

  • A LAUTOKA woman who was the target of social media attacks for removing a Hindu religious idol in an inappropriate manner said she had followed proper procedures before doing so.
  • The Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam Fiji has asked that appropriate disciplinary action be taken against a pastor alleged to have been behind the recent removal of a Hindu religious idol from a Wairabetia home in Lautoka.
  • THE Magistrates Court in Suva will rule next Tuesday on whether the sentencing of Freesoul Real Estate Development (Fiji) Pte Ltd will be made by the Magistrates or the High Court.
  • THE Fijian Elections Office has provided electronic copies of the Provisional Voter List for inspection and verification to five political parties.

  • FIJIAN men facing mental and emotional issues will soon have access to assistance via the country’s first ever Fijian Men’s Help Centre.
  • THE perception that same sex intimacy is dirty and embarrassing is furthering the hatred and condemnation towards the LGBT community, says Haus of Khameleon founder and director Sulique Waqa.
  • POLICE are still verifying a footage showing two male youths being forced to perform sexual acts which was circulated widely on social media earlier this week.
  • THE family of Timoci Tikomainiusiladi, the teenage boy whose body was found face down in a Natabua creek last weekend have pleaded with people to stop speculating that his death was linked to a video currently being investigated by police.
