Police Bill 2020

THE first phase of face-to-face public consultations on the draft Police Bill will be held in Levuka today. This, according to the Ministry of Defence. The consultation will be held at the Lomaiviti Provincial Council conference room.

AG’s Singapore flight

THE flight which ferried Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to Singapore for medical treatment was a “repatriation and cargo flight”. This, according to Fiji Airways, in response to queries.

Birth certificate

FIJIANS are required to present their birth certificates in order to get the COVID-19 vaccine injection, says Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong. He said the document was needed for verification purposes. He said the information on birth certificates were needed so verification of our immunity status could be shared with other countries once our borders open.

Vaccine side effect

THE side effects of any vaccine, if they occur, could last for 24 to 72 hours for those who receive them. This, according to Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong in response to concerns on social media after frontline workers who received the COVID-19 vaccine injection last week experienced fever and severe headaches.

Flight crew

PILOTS, flight crew and flight attendants who receive a COVID-19 vaccine must not fly for 24 hours. This, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji, adding it was a recommendation by their approved medical assessor and medical examiner.

Solidarity

NEW ZEALAND stands in solidarity with the families of three Fijians who lost their lives during the Christchurch terror attack two years ago, says New Zealand’s deputy high commissioner to Fiji, Michelle Padmore. She made this statement while speaking at the Meeraj-Un-Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam Jalsa at the Lautoka Jame Masjid yesterday on the eve of the second anniversary of the Christchurch attack in New Zealand.

Consultation

CONSULTATIONS on the national action plan to prevent violence against women and girls will commence this year. This, according to the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa.

Lami bridge

PAGE 6 – On April 14 1984, The Fiji Times reported the opening of the new bridge in Lami that was featured on its front page. It was opened to traffic and also marked the completion of the Suva­-Deuba highway. In his speech, the then Director of Road Transport, Fred Cobb, said it was a day all travellers from Suva to Navua had been waiting for.

JAGDISH Kumar walked away with a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross on Friday last week worth $65,000 after he was announced the winner of the Fuel Up and Win campaign by Pacific Energy. The 64-year-old said he had fuelled up for $20 in December and was surprised when he was told he had won the car.

Silktails win

THE Kaiviti Silktails fired a warning shot against teams in the Ron Massey Cup competition in New South Wales on Saturday. The Fijians, coached by former Fiji Bati skipper Wes Naiqama, proved that his side would not be a walkover in the NSW rugby league competition after beating Mascot Jets 46-16 in their 2021 pre-season match.

Ba keeps league hope alive

TWENTY-ONE time champion Ba defeated Nadi 4-1 in the Digicel Premier League at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday. Shameel Rao, who has also represented Lautoka, scored a double in the fixture.

Labasa fails to roar in Navua

IT was a tough battle against Labasa and Navua ending the game nil-all during the Digicel Premier League yesterday.

Rawasoi scores for the Blues

HOSTS Lautoka and Rewa fought to a 1-all draw in the Digicel Premier League at Churchill Park yesterday. Marika Rawasoi, playing in his first match for the Blues, scored the opener in the 27th minute. Five minutes later Anish Khem equalised for the visitors. Lautoka missed a lot of opportunities through Dave Radrigai and Sairusi Nalaubu.

Krishna wins top Indian football award

DELHI –  Fijian Roy Krishna continues to shine in India where he is playing professional football. The Labasa-born ATK Mohun Bagan forward won the Golden Ball award after registering 14 goals and eight assists in 23 games to be named the Golden Ball winner of the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) season.
