  • HEALTH Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong says Fiji’s border health measures and surveillance will need to be strengthened and maintained. He said this in a statement issued on Monday where he also announced Fiji’s first two cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. Dr Fong said two travellers from an African state were confirmed positive for the variant while in quarantine.

  • FIJI could save $27 million if the country reduced wheat importation by 25 per cent. Minister for Agriculture Dr Mahendra Reddy said this during the launch of Vertically Integrated Cassava Flour Enterprise, owned by Anwar Khan, owner of Tavioka Organic Products (Pte) Ltd in Drasa, Lautoka.
  • NINE aged-care workers bound for Australia were yesterday reminded to be good Fijian ambassadors during their work tenure. Employment Minister Parveen Kumar said the group would work in New South Wales for a period of three years under the Australia Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS).

  • FIJI’S economy is far from stable, says Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry. “It is heavily dependent on external aid, remittances and loans and grants for its survival,” he said in a statement issued this week.
