It seems the hype is actually picking up as we count down the days to the annual Sukuna Bowl clash between Army and Police this week. Who will it be this year?

Here are some headlines that made the Fiji Times’ edition for Thursday, December 16.

PAGE 1

  • THE Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) is holding $3.5 billion worth of government bonds. This was highlighted in the FNPF’s 2021 annual report tabled in Parliament recently. According to FNPF, investing in government bonds provided guaranteed returns and were “less risky than other assets”.

  • WHILE preliminary evidence on the COVID-19 Omicron variant seems to indicate it does not make people sicker than Delta and other strains, it is important to point out that widespread transmission is still dangerous for Fiji, says Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong.
  • VITI Levu, Vanua Levu, Kadavu, Yasawa and the Mamanuca groups can expect heavy rain from today, says the Fiji Meteorological Service. A heavy rain alert has been issued for these areas as an active convergence zone approached the group from the West with clouds and rain last night.

  • THE unfortunate drowning of a nine-year-old boy named Jeremiah resulted in $5500 worth of swimming training equipment gifted to six villages in Rewa yesterday. Leadership Fiji Community Fund chairman Rajesh Patel said supporting sustainable projects in local communities was one of their main goals.
