The big one on the front page of The Fiji Times’ edition for Tuesday, April 5 is on the revelation that the Corrections Act empowers the Commissioner of Prisons to allow prisoners to participate in sporting activities outside the prison. Minister for Justice and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told Parliament the subsidiary legislation allowed the Commissioner and his team to determine whether the rehabilitation of a prisoner could take place.

He made the statements while responding to National Federation Party MP Lenora Qereqeretabua’s question on whether the Fiji Corrections Service had a policy that allowed a serving inmate to participate in a national rugby sevens tournament. Read about this in The Fiji Times!
