Here’s a brief on some of the stories that made headlines in The Fiji Times’ edition for Friday, April 30.

The big one on Page 1 is on Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong’s daily press briefing in Suva.

PAGE 1

Stay home!

He warned we could be on the cusp of widespread COVID-19 transmission when he announced five new cases. Whatever your take is on the events happening around us right now, one message is loud and clear. We must stay home! Many things depend on that happening. Too many people have been impacted by the lockdowns. There’s also a story about Naibuka Vuli, 45, who was part of the queue outside the Ministry of Health headquarters in Suva. He was emotional. He was hoping to get a pass because he wanted to take his wife and newborn son’s bodies home to Baulevu, Nausori. This is the harsh reality of our times. There’s too much suffering around the country. But if we are to shorten our period of pain, then we must knuckle down and stay home. So please, if you love to visit friends and relatives for various reasons, try staying home for a change. Let’s unite and make this happen, for family and for Fiji!
