IT was a lucky escape for the Friends United darts team when the side narrowly beat 3Ds club in the Suva Darts Association local league competition at the Defence Club in Suva on Monday.

Friends United captain Salendra Singh was the hero for the side when he won 6-5 at the end.

“The 3Ds Darts Club gave Friends United a run for their money when the two teams met in the second round.

“It was 3Ds team leading the Friends United 5-3. They took a lead in the singles playoff after Friends United top players Romit Mahabir, Dharmen Chandra and Yogesh Prasad failed to win,” Singh said.

“3Ds just needed to one more game to give Friends United their first loss of the season. “However, Friends United managed to get back in the game when Ronith Narayan and Shyam Kumar won their respective games to bring it to a 5-all tie. It was down to the last game between Ritesh Pal of 3Ds against me.

“Pal received an early chance of winning the game, but missed a golden opportunity to check out on double 16 while I came from behind and finished the game on double 16 and defeated them 6-5.” Singh said the competition was intense.

“In the other results Speedwing defeated Basic Darts 6-5,” he said.

“Both Speedwing and Friends United are unbeaten in the second round. Both team’s will face each other next Monday to decide who remains at the top spot. “The Suva Darts Association is looking for sponsorship to host a mystery doubles tournament and interested business houses can contact SDA president Edward Roxburgh on 9989870.”
