Tears shed by some people in Nadi in the past year have prompted the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development to continue assisting needy families.

FRIEND Fiji director Sashi Kiran said staff members knew the pain people were going through since the COVID-19 pandemic hit a year ago and they wanted to continue responding.

“The whole of last year, we have been seeing people’s tears, especially in Nadi.

“All we see are tears of gratitude so the team continues to support these families.

“Food, of course, is a basic need, once people can start feeding their families they can start thinking about their livelihoods.”

Ms Kiran said her team continued to have daily debriefings before engaging in community food distributions.

She added people also needed to realise there would be a new normal in this new COVID era and the organisation had mapped out ways to develop livelihoods or income schemes for people in this new era.
