ABOUT 30 French navy personnel are in the Western Division this weekend to help their Fijian counterparts patrol Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The La Glorieuse, the fifth unit out of 10 P400 French Navy ships, is berthed at Lautoka Port. Members of the media were given a tour of the vessel this morning.

Vessel commanding officer Lieutenant Julien Feurtey said their main objective was to assist the Fijian Navy to patrol the EEZ and counter illegal fishing, human and drug trafficking.

The ship will also be open to members of the media for visitation. On Saturday and Sunday, the visiting times are from 10am to 12pm, and then from 2pm to 5pm.
